A retired elementary school principal and college nursing professor walk into a kitchen…

It sounds like the start of a bad joke, right? We still find it a bit funny when we think about the road that brought us here… two women who walked into a kitchen and have made a career of sharing a family legacy through… pickles!

How in the world do you get pickles from that combination of backgrounds?!

We always love sharing the full story of how Polly’s Pickles grew into a local favorite. You can read more about that by clicking HERE.

We are both passionate about cooking healthy food from scratch and believe that food is the ingredient that binds us all together, keeping us strong through the ups and downs of life.

Keep reading to get to know Karen and Polly outside of the kitchen!

About Karen

The first thing you need to know about me is that I love being a wife, mother, and “Yaya” to my three grandsons. I’m also a passionate educator; I’ve served in many roles throughout the years, including time as an elementary school teacher then principal, an instructor of Education at University of Louisville, and a coach to other educators. I’m an enthusiastic writer and joined the Children’s Ministry staff at my church in 2017, with a vision of designing and implementing a Biblical curriculum for children.

Karen’s Favorites:

1. Traveling to Charleston, SC and Italy

2. Watching and taking cooking classes

3. The excitement of getting lost in a good book

4. Continually learning

5. Watching sunrises, sunsets, and looking for rainbows

Karen’s Favorite Memory of Mom (Polly):

Mom surprised me on my 16th birthday and invited about half the school to my birthday party at our home. I still cannot see how she kept it a secret with so many people coming, but it was a wonderful surprise!

About Polly

I’m a wife and mother to two boys; my family brings me more joy than I could ever express. I work full time as an assistant professor at a local nursing college, and have always been passionate about serving and caring for others. When I’m not teaching or playing with my little ones, you can usually find me in the kitchen cooking up delicious recipes for my family and friends.

Polly’s Favorites:

1. Watching cooking shows

2. Going to South Carolina for beachtime and sun!

3. Anything yellow—it’s my favorite color.

4. The strawberry cake my mom makes for my birthday every year.

5. Making a big pot of soup on snowy days

Polly’s Favorite Memory of Nanny:

I remember hurting my pinky finger when I was young, and my grandmother asked what would make it feel better. I told her it would feel better if we went to a restaurant to get popcorn shrimp… we did!
